Kodály Music Institute Certificate leading to an M.A. in Critical & Creative Thinking at UMASS Boston

Students studying for the Kodály Music Institute Certificate are welcome to apply to the M.A. in Critical & Creative Thinking at UMass Boston.

The combination of KMI and CCT would allow music educators not only to become proficient in their field, but to reflect on practice, shape lifelong learning, and foster more self-conscious critical and creative thinking skills in others (as emphasized in standards for arts education), especially through writing to ensure subject matter understanding. The CCT program, which can be taken from a distance and completed over up to 5 years, offers educators the opportunity to interact with practitioners from a range of disciplines and countries. The KMI Level Certificate portion of the program would be taken on-ground during summer study at the Kodály Music Institute in Somerville, MA.

More information can be found at www.cct.umb.edu. Prospective students should contact the CCT Program Director, Peter Taylor, peter.taylor@umb.edu early in your KMI studies so as to maximize the Certificate credits that can also count for the CCT degree.

For advice regarding the Kodály Music Certificate, contact KMI Co-Directors Susie Petrov, susiepetrov@earthlink.net or Carol Forward, carolforward143@gmail.com.
